Veneer Dentistry in Calgary, AB by Beacon Smiles Dental

If you have an unsightly chipped, cracked, or blemished tooth, then you might want to consider a porcelain veneer. Also known as a dental laminate, it’s a restorative cosmetic procedure used to repair minor to moderate tooth damage.

Braces Calgary NW

Consisting of a super-thin shell of dental porcelain, it’s designed to fit snugly over the surface of the existing tooth. In doing so it hides any imperfections while also providing added protection. In addition, veneers can also be used to disguise discoloured teeth that for whatever reason won’t respond to professional teeth whitening treatments. What’s more, because porcelain veneers are attachments, they can also be used to modify slight gaps between the teeth and to straighten the appearance of crooked teeth.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

• Porcelain veneers offer a non-surgical, quick-fix solution to misaligned, irregularly shaped, cracked, blemished, or chipped teeth.
• Porcelain veneers can be color-matched to blend in with the rest of your teeth.
• Dental porcelain as a material is able to resist stains such as tea, coffee, or red wine and carries the same light-reflecting properties of our natural teeth.
• Just like your natural teeth, veneers are strong, durable, and able to withstand typical bite pressure.

So how are they fitted?

The placement of dental veneers is carried out over 3 main phases usually spanning several weeks.

Waxing up

In a process commonly known as ‘waxing up’ impressions are taken of your teeth using wax. These are then sent to the laboratory and used to make models of how teeth will look. We will show you this wax up model so that you can have an idea of what your smile will look like when the process is all done.

Teeth preparation and trial smile

During this appointment, we will make the necessary preparations to the teeth that will be receiving veneers. Once the teeth are prepared, we will take an impression of your teeth to send to the laboratory. It usually takes about 7 to 10 days for the lab to make your permanent veneers. In the meantime, we place temporary veneers on your teeth. This allows you to ‘test drive’ your new smile. This is to ensure that they are a good fit in terms of bite and comfort, before your permanent ones are made. Any adjustments that may be needed are done during this phase. Once you’re happy with the look and feel of the temporary veneers, we’ll go ahead and have the laboratory make your permanent veneers.

The final fit

After carefully taking off your temporary veneers, we try on your new permanent veneers. A super-strong bonding agent is applied and the veneers are carefully placed in position. A light or wand helps to harden or set the agent and any excess cement is removed. Finally, your veneers are shaped, buffed, and polished to achieve a seamless look. This whole process takes around 1 hour to complete and patients should feel no pain.

What about aftercare tips?
